Eric Schell and Todd Smith win Gaston Lake with 15.47 lbs. Take over second place in Team Trail
Eric Schell and Todd Smith continue their hot streak on Gaston Lake this weekend with 5 bass weighing 15.47 lbs, and also claiming the big fish of the tourney, a brute 6.02 lbs. taking home a total of $580. The duo caught fish on crank baits and carolina rigs to bring home the first place prize. With consecutive 1 – 2 punch on Lake Gaston, They have over took Cory Bynum and Cory Leonard for second place in the Anglers of the Year Points race. Mark Robertson and David Ball took second place with 15.01 lbs, Chuck Murray and Randy Groves took third with 14.12lbs. Phil Bain and Tim Wiltfong took 4th with 13.00 lbs and Adam and Gene Richardson took 5th place with 12.75 lbs. Only three pounds separated the top 10 places.
The points race continues to be a mad dash to the finish with one tourney remaining. Chuck Murray and Randy Groves extended their points lead with (394) hold a small 16 point lead over Eric Schell and Todd Smith (378) , Cory Leonard and Cory Bynum hold third with (374), Mark Robertson and David Ball have taken over fourth place with 369 points, Phil Bain and Tim Wiltfong have moved up to fifth with 360 points and Jay Wright and Ricky Ballance hold 6th with 356. These results are with each competitor dropping their worst finish of the year.
Jay Wright and Ricky Ballance continue to hold the big fish of the year with a 6.60 pounder caught at Roanoke Rapids Lake, Chuck Murray and Randy Groves continue to have the largest 5 bass limit of the year with 21.54 pounds at Gaston Lake and they also maintain a small lead over teams Cory Leonard and Cory Bynum and Mark Robertson and David Ball for the Total Weight Prize, 79.02 lbs, 72.92 lbs, 72.09 lbs respectively.
The last event of the year will be a two championship held on October 19th and 20th. Day one will be on Gaston Lake and day two will be on Kerr Lake. Come join the fun as it has been a great year of fun fishing.
