Western Qualifier – Lake Hickory Tournament Results
Press Release: May 4th and May 5th, 2018, Lake Hickory – Western Qualifier
North Carolina hosted their NC BASS Nation Western Qualifier at Lake Wylie in Gastonia NC on May 4th and 5th with 69 anglers vying to represent the NC BASS Nation at the 2019 BASS Regional hosted by B.A.S.S. with all hoping to continue on the road to qualify for a shot at the BASS MASTER CLASSIC!
David Brookshire was on a roll bringing 5 fish each day to the scales with a winning weight of 31.17 pounds! David was crowned the 2018 Western Regional Boater Champion. He had to earn it as Jody Wright was on his heels in second with 29.90 lbs, and new comer Rick Eller had a great tournament taking third place with 28.78 pounds. These three anglers have punched their way to the 2018 NCBN State Team as boaters. Mark Swink took fourth place with 27.88. He is waiting in the wings hoping to be back on the state team for a 4th time. Patrick King was fifth with 25.64 pounds. The qualifiers will head to Maine in 2019 trying to make it to the National Championship.
Jake Scoggins dominated the non-Boater side with a two day total weight of 27.82 pounds. This is Jake’s first time on the team. I think we will hear a lot more from this upcoming angler. Reggie Guffy took second place with 19.68 pounds. This will be his second appearance on the team. The ladies continue to make an appearance as Samantha Gay took third place with 19.37 pounds. Samantha qualifies for the 2017 State team and will compete in the upcoming Bass Nation regional in Maine in 2019. Rob Griswold took 4th place with 16.58 and Ben Olah was fifth with 15.76 pounds. The top three boaters have qualified for the team and 4th and 5th place are waiting in the wings.
Bass Casters claimed the Title of Western Regional Team Champions with a total weight of 110.18 pounds. Bass Hawks/NCBN took second with 100.69 pounds.
